A tripled population means more roofs, more storm exposure
Westfield's population roughly tripled between the 2000 and 2010 census counts, and that rapid subdivision growth around Grand Park Sports Campus put thousands of new roofs and foundations into the path of the same central-Indiana storm systems that produced 18 confirmed tornadoes across the region on April 2, 2025. Fast water intrusion after wind or hail damage needs quick extraction and drying before it reaches insulation and framing.
Older farm-era homes near the original Westfield townsite
The oldest parts of Westfield, tracing back to the 1834 Quaker settlement and 1848 town incorporation, have roofing and window details that were never designed for today's storm intensity — a wind-driven rain event that a newer Grand Park-area home sheds easily can find its way into an older Westfield home's wall cavities.
